Animals are incredibly important to Indigenous peoples. For hundreds of years, they have lived harmoniously, and many stories have been passed down from generation to generation. One of the favourite stories that has been told and re-told by the Haida, Tlingit and Tsimshian people is about a girl who marries a bear. The legend shows how Indigenous people learned from the bears by observing their behaviour and feeding habits and how they saw them as powerful yet gentle animals that should be respected not feared. Such has been the case in Klukshu, one of the last fishing villages in the Yukon.

Producer Karine Gerest visits the village where she talks to Chuck Hume, Tlingit Elder and Guide who discusses how the people learn survival from the bears and fish and how stories are passed from elders to children.

French narration / English subtitles.
