This sound filmstrip, part of The 'Atlantic People's History' series, deals with the death of seventy-eight sealers from the S.S. Newfoundland in March, 1914. The sealers were lost on the ice for three days and perished because of the extreme cold. Survivors of the disaster are interviewed, and the long and colourful history of sealing is told. Using the prints and drawings of David Blackwood along with archival photographs and a ballad on the disaster this production presents a dramatic incident from the history of the Atlantic region.
