On August 9, 1945, America dropped its second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, three days after the bomb on Hiroshima. The city was an apocalyptic vision devastated by a new type of weapon whose repercussions were yet to be learned. This second bomb marked the end of the war for Japan.

Survivors, both Japanese civilians and Western POWs, relate the morbid aftermath, the road from war to peace, the American occupation, the lost Nipponese honour and the segregation that still affects fallout victims today.

This series sheds light on three tragic episodes of the war in the Pacific that are often overlooked in the history books. During several years of research, the director recorded the memories of both Western and Asian eyewitnesses, while uncovering never-before-seen archival footage.
