L'extrême frontière, a documentary by Rodrigue Jean (Full Blast, Yellowknife), celebrates Acadian poet Gérald Leblanc. A child of the Beat Generation, Leblanc conjoined urban-ness and American-ness, wandering and belonging, far beyond the boundaries of taboo. In so doing, he helped propel Acadia into the modern era. Bodies succumb to a poetry-induced trance as an intimate and political language beats out an "America of desire" in a conflagration of words. Leblanc's multi-textured writing increases in scope as his entire emotional register is charted through interviews (the late Gérald Leblanc), testimonials (Antonine Maillet, Herménégilde Chiasson, Claude Beausoleil), readings (Jean-Paul Daoust, Raymond Guy LeBlanc) and song (Zachary Richard, Marie-Jo Thériault). Thanks to the magic of film and inspired, sensitive editing, Leblanc's incandescent verse, a combination of "love and guerrilla tactics," reaches across time into eternity.
