The Documentary Tradition: Tape 2 is comprised of two films which relate how adults have come to terms with difficult childhoods. Through the frank disclosures of Shirley Turcotte and her siblings, To a Safer Place shows how the deep psychic wounds inflicted on victims of incest can be healed (58 min. 20 sec.). Foster Child is the story of Gil Cardinal who, at age 35, searches for his natural family and an understanding of the circumstances that led to his coming into foster care as an infant. Beginning with his unsuccessful attempt to see the contents of his own file, Cardinal encounters frustration and loss but eventually finds his natural family and a renewed sense of his Métis culture (43 min. 8 sec.).
