This video presents 10 facts about Viking longships: 1. Viking longships were large, fast, and used for raiding and combat. 2. They were 25 to 30 metres long with up to 60 men. 3. Other Viking ships, "knorrs" or "karves", were slower cargo ships. 4. Longships were made from wood, usually oak. 5. The men slept in fur-lined sleeping bags and rowing sailors sat on chests holding their belongings. 6. Sails and oarsmen moved the ship through the water. 7. Vikings decorated their ships with wooden carvings. 8. The Vikings used the stars for navigation. 9. Vikings gave their ships names like "Long Serpent" or "Snake of the Sea". 10. The maximum speed of a Viking ship was around 15 knots or 28 kmph.
