Born to be Here describes the life of three youngsters from St-Michel, a multicultural neighborhood in northern Montreal. Born in Quebec, to immigrant parents, they take us on a quest in search of their cultural identity.

Isolated, caught between their parent’s culture and Quebec society, these adolescents must fight hard to assert themselves.

But who are they exactly? How do they see themselves? How are they perceived by society? This film tells the story of Sabrina, Darlyne and Chison. We follow them for one year, as they live, think and grow within their family and school. They confide their fears, their hopes, their disappointments and their love of Quebec. Born here, educated in public schools in French with Quebec cultural references, they claim the right to be recognized and become an integral part of Quebec society.

French narration with English subtitles.
