Sally MacKinnon, 36, is a single mother with a Ph.D. in Classics. A Canadian living in San Francisco, she finds herself coerced into taking Page, her audacious, free spirited 19 year old daughter on a trip to Nova Scotia to dispose of her father's estate. The visit, for Sally, brings back unpleasant memories of the rift with her father, but Page is thrilled to discover her roots among an extended family in the tightly knit community of Antigonish.
