The film follows the historic movement begun on May 4th, 1961 by a group of black and white civil rights activists, the so called "Freedom Riders" who launched a series interstate bus trips into the deep South to desegregate travel facilities. Brutally attacked, they eventually challenged the federal government's inaction to reverse decades of segregation and provide equality for all.
