Pour toi Flora tells the story of young Anishinaabe (Algonquin) individuals who are trying today to make peace with the painful legacy of residential schools. The series follows them from the heartbreaking moment in the 1960s when, as children, they were taken from their parents by the Oblates, to the consequences that continue to haunt them decades later.
This dramatic miniseries weaves together different periods of their lives, as well as those of their loved ones, unfolding in parallel in each episode. It portrays the fragmentation of Indigenous families in Quebec and how, in some cases, they manage to heal.
This six-episode series brings to the screen, for the first time, the painful legacy of Indigenous residential schools in Quebec. These religious institutions, funded by the state, aimed to assimilate Indigenous children and deprive them of the traditional teachings of their communities.
Although fictional, the story of Pour toi Flora is inspired by various testimonies and reflects the reality of hundreds of families in the province. It highlights the innate resilience of these uprooted children, which endures despite unimaginable adversity, and the impact on those around them.
This series is narrated in French with English subtitles.
