Tuatoru – Whiro” Circa 1769 AD.  This story reveals the importance of love, loss and the rituals of honoring those passed and present. After the loss of her kuia, Whiro is unable to wail. She watches from the dunes as her whanau mourn the loss. Her aunties accuse her mother of not raising Whiro to respect. She is blamed for putting a curse on the village when strange things begin to happen in the sand dunes after her grandmother’s burial.

‘The Untold Tales of Tuteremoana’, a dramatic Maori anthology series, brings us three ancient oral whakapapa stories of the Ngāi Tara people. Born of the stars and rooted in the homelands of ancient Aotearoa, the series features some of New Zealand’s top Māori actors.
