Salt is something you probably use almost daily. But do you know what sodium chloride is? It is, in fact, just another name for salt. There are a variety of salts, and only some of them are suitable for consumption. In this film you will learn that all salts are made up of ions, which are electrically charged atoms, and that they often have very strong bonds and form crystals. Salts can be formed in several ways, for example when acid reacts with an alkaline substance or when acids react with metals or metal oxides. You will also get to know that nitrates are salts from nitric acid and that they contain nitrogen and are soluble in water and that gypsum is an example of the salt sulfate. Finally you will learn that carbonates are salts from carbonic acid, and that calcium carbonate is found in limestone.
