More than just a national park, Kejimkujik is also the touchstone for the Miíkmaq First Nation of Nova Scotia. The Miíkmaq can trace their presence at Kejimkujik back more than 5,000 years, thanks to ancient petroglyphs carved into the rocks on the lake's shoreline. In the past 300 years since the arrival of the Europeans, Kejimkujik has been a centre of logging, the scene of a gold rush, and a haven for sports fishermen. Now the park is being restored again as a sanctuary for the Miíkmaq culture.
