Return to the Falls is a powerful program that sheds light on Elder Betty Ross’s life story as a residential school survivor, who held onto her father’s sacred teachings to navigate trauma. In the film, Betty discusses the profound impact of the hardship she experienced. Despite this painful and complex experience, she remembered the wise lessons her father taught her, which helped her stay strong. This film gently shows her journey and helps people understand how these schools affected many Indigenous families. It also shows the strength, courage, and traditions that have helped people heal. Betty’s story is shared with care and respect, giving hope to others who have also faced tough times. Betty is from Pimicikamak Cree Nation (Cross Lake FN) and is a residential school survivor of St. Joseph’s Residential School, Cross Lake, and Assiniboia Residential School in Winnipeg.
