It was met through a historic, best-on-best hockey series, providing common ground for both nations. More than 20 million Canadians and 150 million Soviet citizens were mesmerized by what is known as the "Summit Series." It led to an outstanding display of sports diplomacy, put a human face on communism and reduced the risk of war.

ICE BREAKER takes viewers deep inside this iconic series with fascinating revelations off and on the ice, featuring an impressive cast of diplomats, politicians, journalists, broadcasters, fans and Canadian and Russian hockey legends. Participants include Wayne Gretzky, Vladislav Tretiak, Igor Larionov, Ron Maclean, Mike Keenan, Margaret Trudeau, Terry Mosher "Aislin", Harnarayan Singh, Alan Eagleson, Danielle Sauvageau, Roy MacGregor, Angela James and former Canadian diplomat Gary J. Smith. Smith was instrumental in the behind-the-scenes negotiations that made the series happen, while keeping it from falling apart.
