This compelling video is designed to raise students' awareness of a very real, yet often overlooked, form of abuse: emotional violence. The program describes emotional violence as one person saying something that is hurtful to another. These hurtful words may include threats, bullying, and intimidation-anything which causes feelings of humiliation, fear, or worthlessness on the part of the victim. The program describes the causes of many different types of emotional abuse: men to women, husbands to wives, parents to children, adults to children, and group to group. Viewers of Hurting with Words will understand that there are many successful methods of dealing with people who are verbally or emotionally abusive, as the video and Teacher's Resource Book provide suggestions for how to avoid typical situations.
