The Grass River is a conduit between past and present – the river of today is still a travel corridor, food source and home for hundreds of people. The Grass' natural assets are so remarkable that five provincial parks have been established along its course. Visitors are intrigued by the river's extensive karst formations and caves, karst springs and the two largest waterfalls in Manitoba. The 720 kilometre Grass River straddles the transition between the Manitoba Lowlands and the Precambrian Shield, and has the wildlife, geology and natural features of both. The river and its grassy islands provide shelter and forage for a large resident herd of caribou.
