Ottawa, located on unceded Anishinaabe Algonquin territory, hosts one of the largest urban Indigenous communities in Canada. Many First Nations, Inuit and Métis people have made it their home and continue to contribute to a vibrant and diverse cultural landscape of its Indigenous community. Gabrielle Fayant and Amanda (Nanda) Fox are helping Indigenous youth reconnect with culture, land, and each other through the Assembly of Seven Generations (A7G). Both women overcame trauma, loss, and disconnection, and now lead programs like hide tanning, beadwork, powwow dancing, and community gatherings. Their work creates a safe, family‑like space where young people can heal, build pride in their identities, and reclaim traditions in an urban setting.
