A story about the descendants of French-Canadian pioneers who first settled on strip farms along the St. Lawrence River. The film concerns the Valin family--the parents and their thirteen children, representing the eighth and ninth generations to live on the ancestral farm. Reflecting the rural life of this part of Québec, the film takes us through the four seasons on the Valin farm. Mr. Valin must decide which of his elder sons shall inherit the farm. Closing sequences show the decision equitably made and the line of succession assured for a tenth generation.
