Imagine a cathedral-like structure made of 15,000 tons of snow and ice, ceilings more than 5 metres high, walls covered with original artwork, furniture carved from blocks of ice. Now try to imagine being an overnight guest! The Ice Hotel near Quebec City opens its crystalline halls every January to guests and visitors from around the world who want a unique taste of a Canadian winter. In March, the hotel melts away under the warm spring sun. The inspiration comes from the small Swedish village of Jukkasjärvi, where an ice hotel has welcomed guests every winter for the past twelve years. The documentary Winter Wonderland: The Making of the Ice Hotel takes us through the various stages of the building and management of one of Quebec's mega-tourist attractions, which has become an architectural and "natural" wonder.
