Lovely is an 8-year-old girl and lives in Toronto, Ontario. She is from the Dakota Plains First Nation, and also has Ojibwe, African and Filipino ancestry. In her room, Lovely shows us her new fancy shawl regalia. It’s extra special because it has the South African flag on it. Lovely is a real puzzle cube master – and even has a personal best when she does a solve for us! After an outing to the park with her Mom, Dad and little sister Blessing, Lovely shows us her traditional hand drum – she made it with her Grandma. She will even drum and sing us her favourite traditional song. It’s called “Strong Woman” and it’s about how women and girls should be supportive of each other. She goes for a bike ride and shoots some hoops with her cousin Keandre. One day, Lovely hopes to play professional basketball! Lovely’s special word is “nshiime” which means “sibling” in the Ojibwe language.
